In my early personal history * –
There is a special place to Geology in general and making transparencies Working at the Geologic Department of Geology at the Hebrew University (This is actually the only job I would go to in the morning with a song in the heart).

The process begins from a rock sample like this- in the first picture.

In order to makes the slide I cut a stone slice, like in the second picture..

Transparency – is a piece of stone like this:

שהודבקה לזכוכית נושא מעבדתית והמשוייפת לעובי של כ 4 מיקרון – (דף נייר רגיל כ 12 מיקרון). הדבר מושג על ידי ניסור האבן, שיופה עד שתהה חלקה, הדבקתה לזכוכית הנושא ועיבודה עד לעובי הרצוי. מדידת ערך זה, כך שגבישי מינרל הקוורץ שבאבן מראים רק גווני שחור, לבן וכל אלפי הגוונים של אפור. זה נצפה בעת סיבובו מבעד לעדשת המיקרוסקופ בפולריזציה – כך.

Glued on laboratory glass slide and then reduced to a thickness of about 4 microns. This is accomplished by cutting the stone, Then smoothed and the smooth side glued to the glass and then processed to the desired thickness. Measuring this value, the mineral quartz stone crystals show only shades of black, white and all the thousands of shades of gray. It is observed as you revolve it through the polarization microscope – see final slide here:

כשהגעתי למקום עבודה זו, שקף כזה, אף בגודל של כסנטימטר מרובע היה מקובל ונחשב כטוב. תוך חודשים מספר הגעתי לכך שהייתי מפיק שקף בגודל המירבי האפשרי – בהינתן הגודל של דגימת הסלע וגודל זכוכית הנושא. ראו דוגמה של האבן והשקף שהכנתי ממנה אי אז בשנת 1966. השקף, או חלקו למען הדיוק, שכן ילדי אהבו להשתעשע באוצרות האב וניזוק…

When I got to work at this lab, even the size of merely a square centimeter was considered good. Within a few months I got it to preparing slide maximum possible size – sample size rock or glass. * My early personal history * –
Israeli School began studies (Old British style – wonderful school) roots and quality – no such level nowadays. (Of course closed and in place an Orthodox institution, but what?). Due to my laziness, I went to school to study a professional printing school, with the love of the profession. I served in the Army Corps combat, artillery, measures battalion, I was discharged and I worked several jobs variability, a printer at some print shops (Score notorious special at The Government Printing Office and the printing house that belonged to the Histadrut. since I know all the negative public enterprises such as Israel Broadcasting Authority, Israel Railways, Israel Ports Authority and more …., I was also as a clerk …. but the only job I would go to in the morning with a song (the song has actually another one more reason – at that time I met the love of my life, Shula) technician slides the Department Geology. here a section of the settling of accounts small and old …. Although my work was highly regarded and much praise I was fired from by the head of the department Dr. Mike Oppenheim that strongly opposed to a student who works his will. true. All my attempts persuasion and also for preventing layoffs pledge, including my offer to double the average output of slides per day was rejected categorically. Without thinking about the quality of management and the department’s overall output ..
Therefore, by default secretly I signed up to study Economics and indeed near the beginning of the Academic year – was fired by the above

רקע

בהיסטוריה האישית הקדומה שלי  * –

לימודי החלו מבי”ס ישראלי (עם קורט בריטי) שורשי ואיכותי – אין רמה כזו בימנו. (תחכמוני. שכמובן נסגר ובמקומו שוכן מוסד חרדי, אלא מה?). בשל עצלותי ללמודים הלכתי לבית ספר מקצועי לדפוס, גם מאהבת המקצוע.גם כמתחייב, שירתתי בצבא בחיל קרבי, תותחנים, מודד בגדוד איכון, השתחררתי ועסקתי בכמה עבודות משונות, פועל דפוס בכמה בתי דפוס ( לציון לגנאי מיוחד זוכים אצלי המדפיס הממשלתי ובית הדפוס שהיה שייך להסתדרות. מאז אני מכיר את כל השלילי של מפעלים ציבוריים כמו רשות השידור, רכבת ישראל, נמלי ישראל ועוד…., הייתי גם פקיד…. אולם העבודה היחידה שהייתי הולך אליה בבוקר עם שיר בלב (בעצם לשיר הייתה עוד סיבה – באותו זמן הכרתי את אהבת חיי, שולה) כטכנאי שקפים במחלקה לגיאולגיה. כאן קטע של חיסול חשבונות קטן וישן…. למרות שעבודתי זכתה להערכה רבה והרבה שבחים פוטרתי ממנה, כי ראש המחלקה דאז ד”ר מייק אופנהיים התנגד נחרצות שעובד שלו יהיה סטודנט. נכון. אף לא לגיאולוגיה. ניסיונות השכנוע ומניעת הפיטורים גם תמורת התחייבות להכפיל את התפוקה הממוצעת ליום נדחה קטגורית, ללא חשיבה על טיב הניהול והתוצר הכולל של המחלקה..

אי לכך, בסתר נרשמתי כברירת מחדל ללימודי כלכלה ואכן סמוך לתחילת לימודי – פוטרתי על ידי הנ”ל.

. עם זאת משיכתי לכל נושא הגיאולוגיה וסלעים בכלל, לא פסקה ובציורי שמור להם מקום נכבד…..
